Never buy bigger pants.

Today's weigh-in: 200.8

Not too worried about the weigh-in today, yesterday I was 201.4. I think my body needs to "normalize". My diet and exercise has been pretty much right on.

Just something I wanted to share, and Brian's comment on my last post reminded me of it:

"I went up to a 36" pants from a 34" about a month or two ago and I'm not happy about it."
I'm in no way trying to call Brian out here, I am pretty much exactly where he's at right now. However, it reminded me of a rule I thought of long ago: That I will never buy myself a bigger pair of pants.

My waist size is (ahem... should be) between a 32-34, depending on brand and my own fluctuations. Right now I'm wearing 32 jeans, and yeah, they're tight. But if I buy bigger pants, what am I really saying? That it's ok? I'm making room for my new friend, fat?

No. I want fat to be uncomfortable. This is why I refuse to buy bigger than size 34 pants. If I stick with this one rule, either I'll always keep my weight to a certain level, or I'll simply be unable to wear pants. Either way, I think it's a good rule.

worst of all is when you succumb to days in sweat pants. Nothing good comes of this

I agree. I gained a few pounds this year, and some of my pants (especially one pair of boardshorts) started to get a bit tight, but I just told myself there's no way I'm every buying size 38 pants again. Most of my 36s fit fine, so I will wear them until the others get more comfortable (that is, after I drop 10 pounds or so).

Have you made any goals? A great thing about your original *quest was that you always had goals. You mentioned another trip to France in July. Where do you want to be? A weight or a body fat %? I am battling with this too. I am 189 (down from 256) but I am still 17% body fat. My goal is 12% body fat by May 1st. I don't care about the scale weight.

Good luck! I am cheering you on! Keep posting and kick ass in the gym!

i guess in theory not buying bigger pants is a good idea, but in practice walking around in pants that are too small probably isnt a good idea...

That's the idea. When the pants start getting tight, you lose weight, rather than keep on gaining and buying new pants!

it's a good idea, but as we've seen that doesnt always work, otherwise neither of us would even be posting here.
I'm just saying, sometimes you dont want to be seen in your tight ass pants. I'm not saying don't do anything about it :)

Great to have you basck posting again Billy. This blog really helped me out last year when I was losing fat too. Totally agree with the trousers thing. My pants are too tight at the moment as I've put on a bit of weight again but I'm determined not to accept that as ok and will just have to be uncomfortable or lose the weight.

Great theory, but all jeans I buy stretch. And always get one size bigger jeans after few days. From now on, I will buy only elastic jeans.
