20 Pounds...
Today's weigh-in: 215.6
In our quest to achieve and maintain our ideal weights, my girlfriend and I have tried lots of things. Contests, competition, compliments, criticism. None has worked very well. We really needed to figure out a way to make it work together. To stop being lazy and ordering pizzas, to get to the gym regularly, and to support each other rather than enable each other to cheat and otherwise get off track.
I came up with a new idea. Commitment. We agreed to make a Commitment to each other to lose 20 lbs by January 1. That's 20 lbs in 16 weeks, which is certainly a reasonable goal.
The idea is all about not letting the other person down. If January 1 rolls around and one of us (or both) haven't achieved our goal, it means that we've failed not only ourselves, but each other. Pretty good motivation in my book.
Anyway, I weighed in for the first time in a century this morning. I was expecting 220+, so I was somewhat relieved (although still not thrilled) with my weigh-in of 215.6. This is realistically about 30 lbs more than where I had been happily sitting in the mid 180's about a year (?) ago.
Anyway, here's to that first 20...

Sounds like a good way to get back where you want to be. Hopefully that means more blogging out of your too ;). I should shot for a similar goal date/weight...
yup, same as my goal basically, though I didnt really tie the goal to a date. I like the Jan 1 goal but I'm thinking of shooting for a bit earlier.
My idea was slow n steady. We have a lot of obstacles coming up, holidays, weekends out of town, etc. Trying to keep it realistic...
Looks like the FAT coalition is picking up some steam again. Good luck with your goals, Bill, you've done it before, and you can do it again. Just get some momentum and consistency in the next few weeks.
It's so much better to have to only lose 20 - 30 lbs than a full 50+.
It's great to see so many of us trying to get back to where we should be BEFORE January 1st.
We've done it before so we know it can be done. Good to see you back.
so? whats the verdict?
?
billio?
? No update...?
are you going to update this or not...
you come on every few months... declare something and then leave until a few months later...
seriously, shut it down
Why would I shut it down? Just stop visiting then douche.
Pushing 240 yet?
Actually I'm around 210, thanks for asking though. If you've got anything else to say, why not use your real name instead of lobbing snarky insulting comments while hiding behind an anonymous name? Or, even better, STFU.
I started my own journey with similar weight (244) in a similar timeframe (1/06-12/06) and lost a similar amount of weight (70 pounds). You lost more, faster, of course. I got down to 186 and thought I had it all wired. Then, in January of last year, I found myself puffy and 215. It has been a struggle back down to 200, maybe harder than the initial 70, but it got done. I've thought many times about posting, but it isnt something I've generally done. I sign on only to say, as simple as it sounds: you did it before, you can do it again, brother. It's a daily frustration that it will be a lifelong struggle, but you have the tools. Very best, David
good point david
It would be best to get back where you want to be
Billy,
I haven't visited the site in a while. As I guy who's fluctuated between 195-235 for the 10 years and have gone thru the same kind of up/down, clean/dirty cycles you have. You were an inspiration to me when I first saw you on your quest and I dropped 30. I'm now back around 220 and once again trying to get down. This is like the 5th time I've had to do it. I'm trying intermittent fasting and lyle mcdonald's rapid fat loss program. It's working great so far so check it out if you want a change. Either way, I know you will get where you want to be once you set your mind to it. Keep the faith brohamski!
Scott
Hey dudes :)
I'm also someone who used to zig-zag between 190 and 220 for a decade.
I ended this cycle about 2-3 years. I can't peg an exact date when it ended.
How did I end it? I stopped trying to solve weight through external means... You know what you eat, how you eat, when you do or don't eat.
I found out about books on psychological approaches to weightloss. Stuff like "gabriel method", "make you thin".
Haven't gone above 190 in years now... and am slowly working towards my end goal of a ripped 180... Its a lot slower when you're doing nothing but mental work, but, well permanent :D And I like it.
Hi is billy home?
shut it down...
Just stumbled across this blog and I'm already in love with it. As a person trying to lose weight and get healthy its really inspiring and motivates me to carry on when things get tough.Seeing other people that have achieved their goals is fantastic and inspiring - and all the people featured look fantastic!
this blog is finished...look for someone who updates his blog and doesnt leave his fans hanging.
Boom
Anonymous, what is wrong with you? I'm pretty much done blogging, obviously. Sometimes people come here and are interested in my journey. Why you keep coming back here and leaving asinine comments is beyond me. Get a life. Go start your own blog. Do something constructive with yourself and stop being a troll.
so how is your weight loss journey going
Heya Billy,
Been a long-ass time since I've blogged about my health and am going back through my RSS list to check in with everyone from the old crew of bloggers I used to connect with.
See you're out of practice, too, heh! Hope you're keeping kickin ass and can get back to blogging as well (hard thing to do, ain't it?).
I've completely changed my blog from 4xlt and now it's called Will Phillips is Becoming. Check it out at becoming.willphillips.org.
If you get back to blogging, I hope you come check it out.
And yeah, this Anonymous guy... he's a douche, but don't leave us hanging, Billy!
this is a good quest
best quest ever!?
This entry was a year ago!
Wa wa wi wa!
Hey Billy, I was reading your August 21, 2008 blog about you writing an e-book. Did you ever complete it? I would like to give it a read.
